Gaston School District is a 2A school district located 35 miles southwest of Portland, a quick 7 miles south of Forest Grove, and approximately 15 miles north of McMinnville, Oregon. The buildings are located on one contiguous campus in the City of Gaston. Gaston Elementary has approximately 250 students in grades PK-6. DESCRIPTION:
Gaston School District is seeking an enthusiastic Special Education Teacher for the Jr/Sr High School. This position is for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. An Oregon TSPC Teaching Licence with Special Education endorsements for grades 7-12 is required. The person selected for this position will provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Develop and/or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials according to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental or itinerant capacity as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Oregon Department of Education, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use the results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Effectively collaborate with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
- Effectively and accurately manage assigned caseload.
- Adhere to deadlines and accurate completion of required special education paperwork.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and members of staff to develop IEPs for each student assigned.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Collect appropriate student performance data for determining the extent to which student IEP goals and objectives are achieved

Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information efficiently, accurately, and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Performs duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the GSD safety program.
- Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
- Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and oversee department schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Oregon Teaching License, valid for the position with highly qualified status.
2. Demonstrated instructional skills, including strong reading, writing, and math techniques and strategies.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and parents.
4. Ability to collaborate with grade level team mates, as well as with other staff (e.g., in lesson and program design).
5. Demonstrated work initiative and leadership skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to assess students and use data for instruction as well as excellent computer skills preferred.
7. Willingness to serve on building and/or district committees.
COMPENSATION:
Placement on the negotiated licensed salary agreement, plus insurance and related benefits as described in the negotiated contract.
