Position Vacancy - 2024-25 Junior High Track Coach

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position is intended to support the Gaston School District athletic program and the Athletic Code of Conduct while providing instruction to student participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport involved.  Also organize and conduct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the students and the district.  Perform coaching duties for one or more designated teams.  Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition sport, and encourages all participants to maintain high standards as students, citizens and athletes. This is a stipend postioin.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age 21 years.
  2. Background and Criminal History Clearance.
  3. Hold a current First Aid and CPR Certification, complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, the Oregon State Component Certification, plus other trainings/certifications as required by the District and/or OSAA.
  4. Possess knowledge of sport and the ability to demonstrate/teach appropriate skills and techniques for the sport involved.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with student athletes, district employees, and the general public.
  6. Ability to help student athletes achieve a high level of athletic skill, an appreciation for the value of discipline, and an increased level of self-esteem.
  7. Work with the Athletic Director to ensure all student athletes are eligible, insured, have paid their fees and are in good physical condition from the beginning to the end of the season. 
  8. Enforce District discipline policies, emphasize sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle.
  9. Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.
  10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. The head coach is expected to exhibit exceptional integrity and character at all times.
  2. Be a positive role model in the school and community.
  3. Cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants.
  4. Actively recruit students within the school to participate in the program.
  5. Collaborate with and follow direction of the HS Principal and Athletic Director.
  6. Organize the specific athletic program so that it is consistent with the District and Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) goals and objectives for students/athletes.
  7. Support the academic achievement of student athletes.
  8. Oversee the assistant coaches that contribute in the athletic program.
  9. All coaches are expected to dress in school appropriate clothing for all events.
  10. Demonstrate proper active supervision during ALL scheduled activities of student athletes including, but not limited to, locker rooms, games, practices, and transportation to and from events.
  11. Meet with the players and parents prior to or at the beginning of the season to cover all participation expectations. 
  12. Additional duties as assigned.
