JOB POSTING - FACILITIES MANAGER
Gaston School District is a small semi-rural district with approximately 500 students in grades PK through 12, all on one campus. Gaston’s close-knit community is one of its greatest assets. JOB SUMMARY:
The Facilities Manager is responsible for leading and supervising the district maintenance department. Also oversee all building projects and contractors to ensure that all district facilities and equipment function properly, meet the needs of educational activities and programs, and remain in prime operating condition. This position will also need to perform custodial duties as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five (5) years of experience in custodial/maintenance/facilities supervision
- Two (2) years of college or equivalent training
- Knowledge of the requirements for maintaining school buildings in safe, healthy, clean and orderly conditions
- Knowledge of safety cleaning materials/chemicals, including the interpretation and application of written instructions on labels
- Knowledge of safety standards and practices (MSDS and Integrated Pest Management)
- Ability to use hand tools and other related equipment
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, representatives or outside agencies, and the public
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
- Proficient in the use of computer and internet-based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications, Google Suite
- Perform heavy physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds
- The ability to follow directions; accept responsibility and supervision; to work independently, as well as collaboratively with other staff, students, and the public
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Must possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee scheduling of custodians and their substitutes.
- Arrange and schedule all contractors as needed. (HVAC, Electricians, Plumbers, etc.). This includes requesting proposals/bids, scheduling and assisting contractors with job set-up when necessary, and ensuring proper completion of work before approval/payment of invoice.
- First point of contact for campus alarm calls.
- Work collaboratively with the business office to coordinate supply orders and contractor work.
- Work collaboratively with custodial crew to complete custodial/maintenance needs submitted by staff.
- Direct and participate in summer cleaning and maintenance work.
- Organize and schedule state and federal-mandated facility testing and reporting such as: radon, water, pesticides, lead, asbestos, fire extinguishers, back flow testing, etc.
- Willingness to continue education by attending required workshops, conferences, and training.
- Provide recommendations to administration of ongoing campus maintenance updates/goals.
- Campus Safety Officer - Oversee safety inspection reports for all buildings/areas on campus, as well as coordinate monthly and annual safety drills. Conduct monthly safety committee meetings making recommendations to the Superintendent, Principal, or other designee.
REGULAR DAILY DUTIES:
- Open buildings daily, disarm security systems, confirm HVAC systems are operating, and ensure buildings are ready for staff/students.
- Coordinate parking lot and crosswalk supervision. Ensure parking lots and sidewalks are safe, including ice and snow removal.
- Oversee alarm systems, ensuring they are functioning properly.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment.
- Effectively operate heating system(s).
- Direct and oversee custodial crew and, when necessary assist in completing the following duties:
- Clean walls, furniture, floors, and other areas.
- Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, water fountains, showers, and restrooms.
- Empty the garbage and trash from all rooms.
- Maintain custodial and storage areas in an orderly and safe manner.
- Perform laundry work as required (towels, uniforms, etc.)
- Secure doors and windows to all rooms, and buildings as appropriate.
- Perform minor repairs as needed: painting, plumbing, changing lights, adjusting door closers, etc.
- Set up rooms/areas for special events.
- Complete other related duties and special tasks assigned by the administration.
- Report all safety concerns to the Superintendent/Principal/ Designee immediately.
- Follow and enforce all school and District policies and procedures as well as all state and federal laws/regulations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information relating to students, staff, or district patrons.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The person in this position may stand and/or walk 6-8 hours per day.
- Significant lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- This employee may use hands for repetitive: single grasping, pushing and pulling, fine manipulation.
- Employee may use feet for repetitive movement as in operating foot controls.
- The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions both indoors and outdoors.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12-month / 260-day annual contract.
- Probationary period of 120 calendar days
- Exact daily hours may vary depending on building and staffing needs (generally 8 hours per day)

- Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience.
- This position is evaluated based on board policy.
- Required clearance - pre-employment drug screening and criminal justice/fingerprint clearance.
